North west of MH17 crash site not yet searched
The Dutch government admitted on Tuesday that parts of the MH17 crash site in eastern Ukraine have not yet been searched for debris from the crashed Boeing or possessions belonging to those on board.
RTL news said the Netherlands had assumed Ukrainian rescue workers had combed the entire area but this is not the case. A large part of the north western area has not yet been searched, according to a new map of the site.
‘We do want to go there but it is the most dangerous part of the crash site,’ a justice ministry spokesman told the broadcaster.
Possessions
On Monday four Dutch experts and local officials started recovering more personal items from the crash site, despite the fighting between government troops and pro-Russian rebels.
‘Many personal belongings filling nine cubic metre boxes were recovered,’ Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg, head of the Dutch mission, said.
‘(There was) jewellery, watches, credit cards, a driving licence, a passport, an iPad, photos – things that really should be with relatives,’ Reuters quoted him as saying.
