‘Film’ bench disappears from Amsterdam canal pavement
The disappearance of a bench along one of the central canals in Amsterdam is world news, US news agency AP reports on Tuesday.
The bench, which used to stand at the corner of the Leidsegracht and the Keizersgracht, appears in a key scene in the film The Fault In Our Stars. The two main characters in this love story, teenagers who have cancer, visit Amsterdam and have a crucial conversation sitting on the bench.
It is thought that fans of the book on which the film is based have stolen the bench. A council spokesman said the disappearance of the bench is a ‘mystery’.
‘It is not a publicity stunt for the film’ the spokesman told the Parool.
The council plans to replace the old bench with a new one.
The Fault In Our Stars is due in Dutch cinemas on July 10.
