Train drivers shocked by work of art
Train drivers are angry about a work of art lying in a field close to the train track near Lisse, the Volkskrant reports.
The artwork, entitled Bikinibar and created by Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout, is the nine-metre body of a woman in a bikini with her arms, legs and head hacked off.
It is intended as an advertisement for an exhibition of Van Lieshout’s work at Castle Keukenhof in Lisse.
The train drivers say it brings back painful memories for some of their colleagues of people who commit suicide by jumping in front of a train.
‘It was not our intention to upset train drivers,’ Castle Keukenhof and Van Lieshout told the Volkskrant. However, they are not prepared to move the work.
