Most of the Dutch are happy with their lives in general
The Dutch are happiest with their homes and least happy about their finances but most are nevertheless satisifed with life, according to new research by the national statistics office CBS.
People aged over the age of 65 are most likely to be satisfied with their personal situation, the research, based on information from 2012, shows.
That year, 85% of the Dutch said they were happy with life in general. Over half were happy about where they lived and one-third were very satisfied. People were least happy about their financial situation, with 7% reporting they were unhappy and 20% ambivalent about their finances.
Since the research was carried out, unemployment has risen and spending power has been further reduced. The CBS online report does not offer a comparison with previous years.
International research shows repeatedly the Dutch are among the happiest people on earth, with children topping the Unicef ranking.
