Parents approve of 18-year alcohol limit but will not enforce it
The age at which teenagers can buy alcohol is going up to 18 on January 1 but eight out of 10 parents think their younger teens should be able to continue to drink, according to a poll for EenVandaag.
Nearly all parents of 16 and 17-year-olds who currently buy alcohol for their offspring will continue to do so, the poll showed. But at the same time, most parents also think the increase in the legal drinking age is a good thing.
More than half the 16 and 17-year-olds questioned by EenVandaag said they did not expect to drink less once the ban comes into effect and one-third said they drink more than their parents realise.
