The Dutch take the train an average of 21 times a year

The Dutch travel an average 1,024 km by train a year in 21 journeys, placing them in seventh place in a ranking of European train users.

The Swiss are most likely to travel by train, using this mode of public transport 51 times a year to travel 2,274 km.

The figures come from the international rail association UIC and a Swiss public transport body. The Japanese use the train an average of 69 times a year.
