More counterfeit euro notes in circulation
Some 19,400 counterfeit euro notes have been found in the Netherlands so far this year, an increase of 49% on the same period in 2012, according to new central bank figures.
The number of fake notes has been falling steadily since 2009 but that has now been brought to an end, the bank said. Most of the forgeries are €20 and €50 notes.
Despite the rise, the risk of ending up with a fake note in your wallet is extremely small – just one in 60,000, the central bank said.
