The Netherlands joined other EU powers on Tuesday in condemning the recent violence in Syria and declared the Syrian ambassador to The Hague as persona non grata.

The ambassador is based in Brussels and cannot therefore be expelled, the Volkskrant reported. At the weekend, foreign minister Uri Rosenthal called for a strong reaction from the international community following the bloodbath in Syria on Friday.
‘It is impossible to continue to work with a country with such a president,’ Rosenthal said in a statement. ‘I have therefore chosen to declare the ambassador persona non grata.’
Equipment
The Netherlands closed its embassy in Damascus in March and supports opposition forces with technical and communications equipment, the Volkskrant said.
France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada and Australia have all announced the expulsion of diplomats following the killing of 108 people in the Houla region of Syria on Friday.
Most victims of Friday’s massacre – including women and children – were summarily executed, the UN is quoted by the BBC as saying.
