The average household’s energy bill will rise 8%, or €160, next year because of higher energy prices and tax increases, the AD reports on Monday.

Gas prices are set to rise 7.6% next year, adding €75 to the average bill. The increase in value-added tax will add another €35, as will a rise in the tax on coal. General energy taxes are also set to rise but it is not yet clear by how much.
Last month, the consumers’ association warned domestic bills are likely to go up by €40 next year as national grid company Tennet passes the cost of connecting new power stations to the grid onto consumers, news agency ANP reported.
If so, that would take the average rise in the annual energy bill to €200.
