A Dutch computer programmer is one of four people arrested in New Zealand in connection with the FBI’s shutdown of file sharing website Megaupload.com and now faces extradition to the US.

Law enforcement officials executed more than 20 search warrants in nine countries on Thursday, seizing approximately $50 million in assets and targeting sites where Megaupload has servers in the US, the Netherlands and Canada, a statement from the justice department said.
Among those picked up by New Zealand police is Dutchman Bram van der Kolk, aka Bramos, 29, who is a resident of both the Netherlands and New Zealand and oversees programming.
Denied bail
Two German nationals were also arrested, as was the site’s New Zealand founder Kim Dotcom (Schultz). The four have been denied bail in New Zealand and face extradition to the US, New Zealand media reported.
Three others remain at large, the justice department said.
‘This action is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States and directly targets the misuse of a public content storage and distribution site to commit and facilitate intellectual property crime,’ the department said.
Piracy
The site’s founders have been charged with violating piracy laws and US federal prosecutors have accused it of costing copyright holders more than $500m in lost revenue.
According to the BBC, the firm says it was diligent in responding to complaints about pirated material.
