Post war babyboomers up the pension bill as they start retiring

The Dutch state pension bill rose 6% to €15.8bn in the first six months of this year, as the first of the post World War II babyboomers retired, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.


A record number of babies – 284,000 – were born in 1946 after the war and occupation ended. Of them, 234,000 are still alive and now eligible for a state pension (AOW), the CBS said.
