Sexual abuse commission calls for central reporting point
The commission into reports of sexual abuse at a number of Catholic boarding schools says there needs to be a central point where victims can report sexual abuse.
At the moment, it is unclear where to go with a complaint, commission chairman Wim Deetman told the press.
He wants organisations such as the Catholic church’s report centre for sexual abuse, Victim Support Netherland and fellow sufferers groups to work together.
Deetman says the church should appoint a bishop as the person for victims to talk to. ‘There are victims who want to talk to a representative of the institute where the abuse took place,’ Deetman told the press. ‘Even where the representative is not responsible.’
It is the second interim report from the Deetman commission and the chairman said he is reasonably happy with the way in which the church has dealt with its suggestions so far.
