Grenade hits Amsterdam court complex, police hunt two men
Amsterdam police are hunting for two men who are thought to have fired a grenade at Amsterdam’s main court complex in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A number of windows were broken in the attack, and there is some damage to the wall of one of the towers.
No one has yet come forward with a motive for the attack.
According to the Telegraaf, most of the activity in E Tower is concerned with ‘deportations’ and illegal immigrants. There are no major criminal cases ongoing at the moment which would appear to rule out organised crime, the paper said.
Eyewitnesses
One eyewitness told local television station AT5 he saw two people making off on a motorbike shortly after the blast. Another told the Telegraaf he had seen ‘squatter types’ in the vicinity.
Police and forensic experts have sealed off the area, although court cases are proceeding as normal.
Justice minister Ivo Opstelten told the Telegraaf the incident is ‘an attack on the rule of law’ and that everything possible would be done to find the perpetrators.
