One third of Dutch corporate turnover is due to foreign firms

In 2008, one third of turnover generated by companies in the Netherlands was due to foreign firms, even though just one in 100 companies had a foreign owner, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

In addition, 17% of the Dutch workforce was employed by a foreign firm. US companies accounted for the largest percentage – 3.6% – with French and German firms accounting for 2.5% each.
Foreign firms accounted for some 46% of turnover in the manufacturing and industrial sectors and 35% of transport, storage and communications firms.
By contrast, the building sector was 95% in Dutch corporate hands, the CBS said.
