Wilders talks ‘nonsense’ on Greek economy: central bank chief

Calls by PVV leader Geert Wilders for an end to EU financial support for Greece are nonsense and dangerous, central bank president Nout Wellink told a television talk show on Wednesday evening.

It is ‘false prophets’ who say we should drop Greece, he said. ‘Wilders is a false prophet in terms of the economy.’
Wilders said earlier that Greece should leave the euro and return to the drachma.
Wellink went on to warn against a restructuring of Greece’s debt, saying it could lead to a chain reaction and affect other countries.
‘Europe is a region where all economies, financial institutions and markets are interconnected,’ he said. ‘Failing to help Greece would not only be bad for the Greeks, but also for ourselves.’
