Government plans to tighten up the regulations for acquiring Dutch nationality will make a ‘large number of migrants in the Netherlands second class citizens’, according to ethnic minority organisations.

Home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner wants to make a salary of at least the minimum wage and two years’ employment experience or higher education part of the requirements.
But according to LOM, an umbrella group representing eight organisations, the changes mean a large number of ethnic minority youths will be unable to take Dutch nationality, even though they have lived here for years.
‘This conflicts with the principle of equality,’ LOM said in a statement.
