Immigration service to up protection of au pairs
The immigration service IND is to announce a get-tough policy to ensure girls coming to the Netherlands as au pairs are not exploited, the AD reports.
The paper says IND officials believe many official au pair agencies do not take enough steps to ensure girls are well treated and do not end up in the hands of pimps.
Seven of the 20 bureaux, which work with the IND to bring in au pairs, have been put under extra supervision and one has been dropped altogether, the paper says.
Some 1,600 girls, mainly from the Philippines, South Africa and South America come to the Netherlands as an au pair every year.
