Dutchman wins controversial Utrecht marathon, Kenyan second
Dutchman Michel Butter won this year’s Utrecht marathon on Monday in a time of 2.17. Kenyan runner Mutai Kipkorir was second and Dutchman Olfert Molenhuis third.
The number of foreign runners was sharply down this year, after the race organisers decided only Dutch runners would be eligible for big money prizes.
The decision, described as a scandal in the Kenyan press, led to a Dutch businessman saying he would make up the difference if a foreign runner won.
