Ajax general director quits
General director Rik van den Boog is stepping down at Amsterdam football club Ajax from June 1.
In a statement on the club website, Van den Boog said recent developments at the club had made it impossible for him to do his job and take ‘important decisions which relate to the coming years’.
At the end of March, Ajax’ board of directors resigned following disagreement with club legend Johan Cruijff over how the club should be run. Cruijff returned to Ajax as a member of the technical committee in February after becoming highly critical of the club’s performance.
The Telegraaf says Van den Boog is quitting before he could be pushed out by the new board. He joined the stock exchange-listed club at the beginning of 2009.
