The Netherlands plans to stop supplying structural development aid to 16 countries including Burkina Faso, Senegal, Zambia and Suriname, Trouw reports on Thursday.

The paper has obtained a preliminary list of countries which will continue to receive funding under new aid spending rules.
The list has been drawn up on the basis of the added value provided by Dutch aid as well as Dutch national interests, thereby fulfilling a wish of the employers organisation VNO-NCW, the paper says.
Millenium targets
The new list of donor nations includes Benin, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda and Uganda, all of which are included on the UN’s millennium target list.
Afghanistan, Burundi, Yemen, the Palestine territories and Sudan will also get help because they are in a fragile state because of conflict.
Bangladesh, Ghana, Indonesa and Kenya are also on the list because of their specific interest to the Netherlands – such as Bangladesh and Dutch expertise in water management.
The list will be discussed by the cabinet next week, the paper says.
