Westland town council has lost its campaign to allow Sunday shopping 52 Sundays a year because ‘it has too little in the way of tourist attractions’.

Last year, the government agreed to get tough on councils which claimed to be tourist areas in order to break the ban on Sunday shopping.
The Zuid-Holland council had appealed against the ban to the Council of State, the highest court in the country. But the court ruled that although Westland ‘may have ambitions in terms of tourism’ it does not yet qualify as a tourist draw.
