Deport jobless Eastern Europeans if they won’t go voluntarily: minister

Jobless people from Eastern Europe should be encouraged to go back to their country of origin voluntarily, and if they won’t leave, they should be deported, home affairs minister Henk Kamp says in an interview with the Telegraaf on Tuesday.

At the moment it is difficult to control where Eastern Europeans are living and what work they are doing, Kamp, from the right-wing Liberal VVD, said. He wants to tighten up the registration procedures to make sure migrants ‘pay for the provisions they receive’.
Kamp says that up to 40% of people living in some homeless shelters are Polish nationals.
‘As a government, you have to point this out to people and if they don’t listen or keep coming back, deport them. As a last resort, you can declare them ‘undesirable aliens,’ Kamp told the paper.
Tsunami
Several politicians from the right and left of the political spectrum have recently called for government action to curb what they say is the nuisance caused by thousands of Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian workers.
This weekend, for example, a Socialist MP called for help to deal with a ‘tsunami’ of Eastern European migrants in Zundert.
Most of them work in the horticultural and meat processing sectors, which have to be highly competitive and find it hard to recruit native Dutch workers.
Agencies
In total, around 200,000 Eastern Europeans live and work in the Netherlands, many on short-term contracts via employment agencies which also supply basic board and lodgings in what have become known as Polish hotels.
‘I cannot stop people who have the right to come here,’ Kamp told the Telegraaf. ‘But I do think we have enough people here who could fill these jobs.’

Are you Polish or Eastern European? What do you think?
