Mayors agree to get tough on Eindhoven drugs war
Detectives from the national police force are to be drafted in to help end the ‘drugs war in the south of the country’, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.
In addition, there will be a fast-track introduction of cannabis cafe passes for registered users, mayors from five towns in the region and justice minister Ivo Opstelten decided at an emergency meeting on Thursday evening.
The mayors called on the minister to get involved, saying their own forces do not have enough manpower to get a grip on the situation.
There have been five drug-related shootings in and around Eindhoven over the past few weeks.
The government plans to introduce passes for cannabis cafes, known as coffee shops, nationwide.
