Drunk student wins damages from shock blog
An Amsterdam University law student, filmed drunk and sitting next to a pool of vomit, has won the right to damages from shock blog GeenStijl, the Parool reports on Wednesday.
The film, recorded two years ago and lasting two minutes, was first broadcast on student tv website but was picked up by GeenStijl a year ago.
Hundreds of thousands of people viewed the clip, which the website refused to remove. The student then went to court to claim damages.
Media rights lawyer Christiaan Alberdingk Thijm, who is not involved in the case, told the paper the publication does not serve the common good. ‘It is clear that GeenStijl has crossed the line,’ he said.
Alberdingk Thijm expects the courts to award damages in the region of €10,000.
