Dam square panic: Arrested man is known to the police

One of the two men arrested for causing panic on Amsterdam’s Dam square during the Remembrance Day commemorations on Tuesday evening is well-known to the police, the Telegraaf reports.

The 38-year-old resident of the capital has arrests for theft, drugs dealing and violence, police chief Bernard Welten said at a news conference.
The man, with the appearance of an orthodox Jew, caused panic by shouting incomprehensibly during the two minutes silence. His motive is still unclear, the paper said.
Several people were injured in the panic.

Psychiatrist

The man will be examined by a psychiatrist before his expected release on Wednesday morning, the paper said.
The second man arrested during the incident has been freed. He dropped a suitcase because of the shock.
Welten said the panic partly broke out because people in the crowd began shouting ‘bomb, bomb, run’.
