Ship hands over whale meat

A container ship in Rotterdam port has handed over seven containers of whale meat to the Dutch authorities following a blockade by activists from environmental group Greenpeace.

The organisation had been tipped off that the NyK Orion was carrying the remains of 13 finback whales from Iceland to Japan.
Although customs officers said the ship’s papers were in order, the company decided to hand over the containers. Greenpeace maintains the meat is illegal.
