Survey: Parking rates go up by stealth
Car parks are selling their customers short and raising prices by stealth, newsagency ANP reports on Friday, quoting figures from the national retail organisation Detailhandel Nederland.
The organisation found that customers in many car parks are still paying the same hourly rate but only get 50 to 57 minutes parking time. Moreover, 1 in 5 car parks are ‘smelly’ or ‘dirty’.
Hardly any car park charges by the minute while only 60% accept payment by direct debit card, the survey says.
Car park Vier Meren in Hoofddorp came out best in the test while car park De Kolk in Amsterdam, which charges € 8,40 for 55 minutes, is deemed excessively expensive.
