Drunk PVV MP warned after row in bar
An MP for Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration party PVV has been given a verbal warning after reportedly hitting a barman who refused to give him any more to drink.
The Volkskrant reports that Hero Brinkman, who was a policeman in Amsterdam for 20 years, became angry after the barman in the parliamentary press centre in The Hague refused to serve him because he was drunk.
He then tried to force his way behind the bar to help himself, causing the barman to hit the alarm button to warn security.
According to the Telegraaf, Brinkman hit the barman in the face. Brinkman is the party’s spokesman on home affairs, which includes law and order.
The chairman of the Nieuwspoort press centre Max van Weezel told the Volkskrant Brinkman had apologised to the barman who is considering pressing charges.
