Pharmaceutical firms are looking for hundreds of volunteers in the Netherlands to take part in medical trials for a vaccine for swine flu (also known as Mexican flu), reports the AD newspaper on Tuesday.

Swiss firm Novartis, one of the two suppliers which has been asked to provide 34 million Dutch vaccines, plans to start human trials in the Netherlands in the coming months, the paper says.
Weesp-based vaccine maker Solvay too is considering Holland as a possible testing area, although other European countries will also take part in its trials, says the AD.
The result of the trials on adults and children usually takes around six weeks, according to the paper. Similar tests are already running in other countries, including the US, Australia, Belgium and Germany, it says.
According to leading virus expert Ab Osterhaus in the AD, the trials to test vaccines for swine flu are a ‘good move’ and do not pose any real risk to those taking part. ‘A major advantage is that you will literally be at the front of the queue,’ he is quoted as saying.
By mid June, 61 cases of swine flu had been identified in the Netherlands.
