Violence part of police work: court
Police chiefs are disappointed in an Amsterdam court which said on Tuesday dealing with aggression and violence was part of the job, the Telegraaf reports.
The public prosecution department had asked the court to double the length of sentences handed down to people convicted of aggression against the police.
Police chiefs said the ruling sent out the wrong message to offenders. Seventeen people were appearing in court on Tuesday charged with using violence against civil servants.
The judge said there was a difference between the situation facing police officers and street youth workers, and other officials such as ambulance staff.
