Ministers have approved the introduction of an alcohol lock to be fitted in the cars of convicted drunk drivers, the NRC reported at the weekend.

Drivers have to blow into a small apparatus fitted to the dashboard to prove they have not been drinking before the engine will start.
Transport minister Camiel Eurlings expects the lock to be in use in 2010 if he gets parliamentary approval for the scheme.
Some 200 people are killed on the Dutch roads every year in accidents involving alcohol, says the NRC.
