Many of us are financially illiterate
The average Dutch person is financially illiterate and cannot answer simple questions about interest rates, inflation and shares, according to research by economist Maarten van Rooij for his thesis.
Van Rooij questioned people in 1,500 households and found that four out of ten people could not answer five easy questions.
But Van Rooij says that people do not overestimate their financial knowledge. ‘They know how little they know,’ he told news agency AFN.
