Princess Máxima has agreed to receive the first copy of a book about the 1978 football World Cup, in which Argentina beat the Netherlands 3-1 in the final, the Volkskrant reports on Monday.

But the book is titled Football in a Dirty War and Máxima’s agreement is remarkable because a representative of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo will also be at the presentation, the paper says.
The Mothers is an association of women whose children disappeared during the military dictatorship of 1973-86. Máxima’s father Jorge Zorreguieta was agriculture minister during the period and is widely assumed to have been aware of the disappearances. An estimated 30,000 opponents of the regime were killed, the Volkskrant says.
The book, by journalists Iwan van Duren and Marcel Rozer, focuses on how the junta misused the World Cup to win public support.
Zorreguieta’s role in the junta led to him being banned from Máxima’s wedding to crown prince Willem Alexander in 2002, but he and his wife are now regular visitors to the Netherlands.
The paper says Máxima held an informal meeting with members of the Mothers at the end of 2005. This meeting will also take place behind closed doors.
The Volkskrant says it is not known if Máxima consulted prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende before agreeing to accept the book.
