Former MP attacked with a cream cake

Former GroenLinks MP Wijnand Duyvendak was left covered with cream after being attacked with a cake by a man in a ‘black baseball cap’ at the launch of his autobiography yesterday.

The meeting, at Amsterdam’s new library, was heavily guarded, said the NRC. Nevertheless, right-wing extremists disrupted the presentation by throwing pamphlets from the first floor balcony printed with the word ‘terrorist’.
Duyvendak quit as an MP last week after admitting breaking into the economic affairs ministry during his life as an environmental activist in 1985, revelations which have made him unpopular on both political flanks.
Three people, including the cake thrower, were arrested. Duyvendak now intends to make a formal complaint to the police about the attack. ‘I am opposed to violence,’ the NRC reported him as saying. The cake incident was both ‘literally and figuratively tasteless’.
