Containers arriving at Rotterdam port are to be checked more thoroughly in future for traces of gaseous pesticides.

This follows the discovery that goods from China can still contain a residue of poisonous gas. The use of pesticides to kill off wood eating beetles has been compulsory since 2005.
Last Friday, Dutch bed maker Better Bed admitted that 1,300 matrasses from China might still contain traces of gas.
