Airline KLM played an active role in helping Nazis escape to Argentina following World War II, according to TV programme Network on Tuesday evening.

The claim was made by aviation historian Marc Dierikx on the basis on documents he has found in American and Swiss archives.
Although it was forbidden for those who had been involved with the Nazis to flee Germany after the war, many were prepared to pay large sums to leave the country to avoid prosecution. According to Dierikx, KLM helped them to escape to South America.
Network discovered that the KLM office in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires mediated in the escape of Nazis. But KLM says it has found no evidence of this in its files. Nevertheless Dierikx said it is ‘difficult to imagine’ that senior KLM management in the Netherlands did not know what was going on.
