A Transavia plane made an emergency landing in Vienna after eight people suffered nausea and dizziness during a flight from Amsterdam to the Turkish city of Antalya.

Two passengers were taken to hospital for checks after the incident on Sunday before being released, while the other six were allowed to continue their flight after being examined at the airport.

Transavia has not commented on the incident other than to say that the plane was flown back to Amsterdam to be examined.

NOS quoted one passenger, Hetty Roelofsen, who said other travellers started feeling unwell about an hour into the flight, shortly after one person had complained about a strange smell. The eight casualties were reportedly sitting in different areas of the plane.

Transavia said it was working to mitigate the impact on its flight schedule as a result of the plane being out of service.
