Kidnappers ‘disappointed’ at depiction Heineken abduction
The Heineken ontvoering (the Heineken abduction), has been reviewed by a pair of unlikely film critics in het Parool: two of the four abductors who grabbed beer mogul Freddy Heineken and his driver Ab Doderer in 1983. The third kidnapper, Willem Holleeder, is in prison for extortion while Cor van Hout was murdered in 2004.
‘It’s crap’, say Jan Boellaard and Frans Meijer of The Heineken ontvoering, which stars Rutger Hauer as Freddy Heineken and is due for release next week.
‘Maybe we should put that a little more politely and say it’s a fake’, Boellaard aka the cat adds. ‘Let’s say we’re disappointed’, joins in Frans ‘the sting’ Meijer.
Injunction
The men have hired lawyer Bart van Tuinen in order to see what legal steps they can take although they haven’t joined ranks with fellow kidnapper Willem Holleeder who wants to take out an injunction against the release of the film.
Boellaard has contacted the film makers and production company IDTV through his lawyer but they have refused any further communication saying they don’t wish to be associated with the kidnappers. The men claim that their right to present their side of the story has been violated.
Police movie
‘It’s become a police movie, very one sided and over the top’, says Meijer. ‘In a number of instances the film makes things much worse than they actually were’, Van Tuinen claims.
Boellard and Meijer who each served twelve years for the abduction only saw the trailer and some film fragments. It was enough, they said. They are leaving it to their lawyer to see the whole film and have no plans to do so themselves.
Guns
‘There’s guns all over the place and we hardly used them at all’, Boellaard complains. ‘You see Heineken with gun a aimed at him and then the gun is being cocked. That never happened.’
‘Somebody pushed Mr Heineken’s head down a toilet. That is just stupid’. Meijer says.
Torture
We have heard that the films shows us torturing Heineken in this way. We didn’t do that.’
The film makers will claim artistic license but that argument does not hold water, according to Van Tuinen.
‘There was only one Heineken abduction and it really happened. If you exaggerate the facts in negative way and get rich over the backs of these two people while doing it I would call that an indefensible act.’
