Eberhard van der Laan approved as Amsterdam mayor
Former housing minister and lawyer Eberhard van der Laan, 55, will be sworn in as Amsterdam mayor on July 7.
The cabinet on Friday agreed to his appointment, which was recommended by the city council last month.
Van der Laan replaces Job Cohen, who took over as Labour party leader earlier this year.
