EU nationals: you have just seven days left to register to vote
European nationals living in the Netherlands have just seven days left to register if they want to vote here rather than in their home country in the June EU elections.
Voting to elect 31 Dutch members of the European parliament takes place on Thursday, June 6 and all European nationals over the age of 18 are able to vote either in the Netherlands or their country of origin.
To register, potential voters have to fill in a special form, known as Y32, and either post, or email it, to the local authority where they are registered. Your registration must be logged by April 23.
- Government website on voting rights
- Form Y32 to register to vote
- Form to register in Amsterdam
- Register in The Hague
To find the link to your local authority, search for Y32 formulier and your local council’s name. Local authorities are required by law to alert EU nationals to the fact they can vote in the Netherlands.
Dutch nationals abroad must also register their intention to vote by April 23 if they have not already done so for a previous election.
Has your local authority written to tell you about your rights? Or have you had difficulty registering to vote? We’d like to hear from you via editor@dutchnews.nl
