5,000m bronze for Sifan Hassan at world championships
Dutch middle-distance runner Sifan Hassan made up for her disappointing performance in the 1,500 metres at the world championships in London on Sunday with a surprise bronze in the 5,000 metres.
‘I knew I could win bronze and I am really happy,’ Hassan said after the race. ‘If I increase my training over 5,000 metres, I will gain even more confidence.’
Hassan’s bronze took the Dutch medal haul at the championships, which finished on Sunday, to four: gold for Dafne Schippers in the 200 metres, bronze for Schippers in the 100 metres, bronze for Hassan in the 5,000 metres and bronze for Anouk Vetter in the heptathlon.
