Het Loo palace to undergo three-year renovation costing €123m
The Het Loo palace near Apeldoorn is to close next January for a three-year renovation project set to cost €123m.
The plans include developing a new underground exhibition space under the main courtyard and a new entrance. In addition, a large quantity of asbestos will be removed.
The palace gardens and stables will remain open to the public while the work is carried out, and the ticket price will be halved. In 2016, some 350,000 people visited the palace, which was last renovated in 1984.
The palace was built between 1684 and 1686 for stadhouder William III and Mary II of England. It remained a royal residence until the death of queen Wilhelmina in 1962.
