ABN Amro makes all bank cards suitable for contact-free payments
ABN Amro is to swap an extra 2.4 million bank cards this year with new cards offering contact-free payments, the bank said on Wednesday, website nu.nl reports.
This means that by the end of 2015, all the bank’s private customers will be able to pay for goods by placing their card close to a reader.
Contact-free payments can be made up to €25 and with a maximum of €50 in successive payments.
Some 2.3 million of the bank’s customers already have cards which can be used to make contact-free payments and the number of transactions is doubling every month, the bank says.
ING and Rabobank are also incorporating contact-free technology into their new bank cards.
