Computer chip maker ASML confirmed this weekend that part of its IT system was hacked but said there is ‘no evidence that anything of value was compromised’.

Broadcaster Nos and tech website Tweakers said on Saturday that the ‘Chinese authorities’ had hacked into ASML. ASML did not say who it thought was behind the intrusion.

ASML said there was only a short amount of time between the hack and its discovery.

‘At this time it appears that only a limited amount of data was accessed. ASML has not found any evidence that valuable files, either from ASML or our customers and suppliers, were compromised,’ the statement said.

The company said it would not ‘provide further information about this event unless there is a significant development’.

ASML makes high-tech lithography machines for the semiconductor industry and operates in 70 countries world wide.
