More people are satisfied with life
Fewer Dutch people were unhappy about the state of society in 2009 than they were in 2004, according to new research from the government’s socio-cultural advisory body SGP.
In 2004, around one third of the population was pessimistic about society, but by 2009, that had gone down to 26%, the SCP said. In the 1990s, the figure was around 17%.
Among peoples’ main concerns: the hardening of attitudes, public safety and integration, and the inability of politicians to make changes.
Dissatisfaction is concentrated among the low-skilled, Telegraaf newspaper readers, people from Limburg and people who vote for the anti-Islam PVV, the SCP says.
Only 7% of highly-skilled people are fearful about the state of society.
