So far five people have been arrested in connection with the string of explosions outside homes and business premises in Rotterdam.

The most recent arrest this weekend was that of a 26-year-old man from Amsterdam. He is suspected of being involved in several blasts, local media reported.

There was yet another blast in the port city on Sunday night, this time outside a cannabis café on the Witte de Withstraat in the centre – the second time it has been attacked.

There have been more than 50 attacks and attempts to damage property with explosives in Rotterdam so far this year, more than in 2022 as a whole.

City officials and the police have upped their surveillance in areas where explosions have already taken place, such as the Crooswijkseweg in Rotterdam Noord which was hit four times last week.

On Friday police said they had arrested two teenagers aged 14 and 15 in connection with a string of attacks on the Van Speykstraat.
