Arriva train drivers to strike in the north next week
Drivers and conductors on Arriva trains in the north of the country will go on strike next Thursday and Friday, local broadcaster RTV Noord has reported.
That means there will be fewer or no trains on some routes in Groningen and Friesland on those days. Drivers and conductors from the three main rail unions are taking part in the strike.
The rail unions want Arriva and other regional train companies to boost pay by 10% and take steps to reduce the pressure of work. The company has offered a 5% pay rise.
National railway company NS earlier reached agreement on a 9.25% pay rise for its workers.
An Arriva spokesman told news agency ANP he regretted the collapse of the talks and hoped that both sides could get back round the table quickly.
