Amsterdam tech company Messagebird is slashing its workforce for the second time in a month, cutting the number of staff by a total of 31%.

Chief executive Robert Vis told staff in an email on Tuesday that the company had increased the size of its workforce too quickly and had not integrated acqusitions quickly enough.

‘I alone made the mistakes leading up to this and I should have seen it coming earlier,’ he said. ‘More drastic measures’ need to be taken for the ‘health of our business and to continue to support and prepare our customers and our stakeholders from what is about to come’, Vis said.

Messagebird provides software for maintaining client contacts and last year raised €620 million to fund further growth.

Earlier this month, Eindhoven software firm Sendcloud cut is workforce by 10%, or 40 jobs, will Just Eat Takeaway said it is cutting 170 jobs this week.
