Two Dutch cyclists killed in crash in Loire valley in France
Two Dutch tourists have died after being hit by a car as they cycled through the village of Chambord in France on Sunday, the foreign affairs ministry has confirmed to NU.nl.
The two cyclists, a 61-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, died instantly, French paper La Nouvelle République reported. They had been staying at a nearby campsite and were cycling towards Chambord castle.
The car subsequently crashed into a tree, reportedly leaving one passenger with life-threatening injuries.
‘It’s a tragic accident and it’s difficult to understand how it could happen on a straight road with the sun not being in the driver’s eyes,’ Chambord mayor André Joly said.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by French police.
