Newly appointed foreign affairs minister Wopke Hoekstra has gone into quarantine after one of his children tested positive for coronavirus.

The CDA leader, who moved from the finance ministry on Monday after Mark Rutte’s fourth cabinet was finalised, said he would isolate while waiting for a PCR test to confirm the result of an antigen self-test.

He is the second member of the new cabinet to go into quarantine this week, after his successor at finance, Sigrid Kaag, tested positive for the virus at the weekend.

Kaag was unable to attend the traditional swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet on Monday, but joined the proceedings by video link.
